SHE WAS ONLY NINE, BUT HER VOICE BELONGED TO ANOTHER ERA.
When Immi Davis walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage in 2022, she looked like an ordinary nine-year-old girl facing one of the biggest moments of her young life. Then she began to sing.
Immi chose the classic “I Put a Spell on You,” originally recorded by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. When Simon Cowell asked why she had selected that particular song, her answer was wonderfully simple: she had been practising it. Nobody was prepared for what happened next.
The moment Immi opened her mouth, the entire atmosphere inside the London Palladium changed. Her voice was deep, soulful and astonishingly mature. It carried the confidence and character of a performer far beyond her years. The judges watched in disbelief. The audience rose to its feet, and Immi received four enthusiastic yeses.
But her appearance on BGT was not simply a lucky moment. According to her official website, Immi had been submitting online auditions to the show since she was five years old. Year after year, she continued trying, waiting for the opportunity to stand on that famous stage.

Immi advanced to the live semi-finals, where she returned with a dramatic performance of “River” by Bishop Briggs. The stage was filled with dancers, drums and powerful production, but Simon wanted to hear something more.
He asked Immi to sing part of the song again without the backing track. No effects. No loud instruments. Nothing to hide behind.
Standing on the stage in front of a live audience, Immi sang the chorus a cappella and showed that the enormous voice everyone had heard truly belonged to her. She did not reach the final, but winning a competition is not the only way to leave an impression. Millions of viewers had watched a nine-year-old girl walk confidently onto one of Britain’s most famous stages and sing with the soul of someone who had been performing for decades.
There was no dramatic story needed. No Golden Buzzer and no elaborate explanation.
Just a young girl, years of practice and a voice nobody expected.
Immi Davis reminded us that age can tell us how long someone has lived, but it cannot measure their talent, determination or potential.
Some performers need only one note to make an audience pay attention.
